Biographies

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Calvin L. Holmes
Calvin Holmes joined Chicago Community Loan Fund in April 1995, and was promoted to executive director from lending program manager by the board in June 1998. During his tenure as CCLF's key underwriter, he increased the intermediary's portfolio from 7 to 32 loans, thus expanding notes receivables from approximately $400,000 to over $2 million in three years.

Prior to joining CCLF, Calvin managed 100-200 units of scattered-site, low-income housing for the St. Ambrose Housing Aid Center in Baltimore, Maryland for nearly two years. His career development also includes three years as a transportation planner for the City of Chicago. He also managed the national and international accounts for one of the nation's top four greeting card companies, Recycled Paper Products.

Holmes holds a bachelor's degree in African-American studies from Northwestern University and a master's degree in urban and regional planning, with a concentration in real estate development, from Cornell University.

He currently serves on the board of the Opportunity Finance Network (OFN). He also serves as the Secretary of the Interfaith Housing Development Corporation of Chicago; Treasurer of the Parkland Condominium Association and for the Supportive Services Development Corporation. In 2002/03, Calvin was a Leadership Greater Chicago fellow. Read his profile in Crain's Chicago Business "40 Under 40" feature, recognizing him as one of Chicago's up and coming community leaders.

DIRECTOR OF FINANCE & ADMINISTRATION Michael L. Bradley, CPA
Michael, who joined the fund in September 2004, is responsible for conducting day-to-day financial management, managing investment capital, overseeing the loan monitoring and collections process, as well as maintaining investor relationships. Michael, who holds an MBA and Masters of Public Policy from the University of Chicago, comes to CCLF after having worked as an investment banker Robert Baird & Co. During his graduate studies, Michael interned with South Shore Bank in Chicago, and with Merrill Lynch in New York. Michael is a Certified Public Accountant, having worked as a senior auditor at Deloitte & Touche and as a senior consultant at KPMG. In his spare time, Michael runs marathons (Chicago 1996 and 2003) and is an avid golfer.

DIRECTOR OF LENDING Rhonda R. McFarland
Rhonda McFarland joined the team in October 2006 as CCLF's Director of Lending, managing the lending and technical assistance programs. Rhonda has significant expertise in community development lending: most recently, she was the Managing Director of the RM Group, LLC, a real estate and small business consulting practice. She has also held community lending positions at Harris Bank and First National Bank of Chicago. Rhonda served on CCLF's board in 2000 and 2001, and is a former chair of the loan committee. She is currently on the board of the South East Chicago Commission.

SENIOR LOAN/PROGRAM OFFICER Mark Fick
Mark Fick joined CCLF in July 2005. He is focused primarily on facilitating CCLF's cooperative housing and community arts lending work as well as expanding our suburban outreach. Mark also runs the Project Readiness Workshop program and advocates for green design resources with CCLF's Sustainable Building Working Group. Mark comes to CCLF with ten years of grassroots community development experience. Most recently he was the Associate Director at the Chicago Mutual Housing Network (a former CCLF borrower); and the Training and Technical Assistance Coordinator at Housing Action Illinois. Mark serves on the boards of the North Side Community Federal Credit Union and the Campus Cooperative Development Corporation. He is a founding member of the Stone Soup Cooperative, and enjoys playing the accordion.

EXTERNAL RELATIONS OFFICER Sarah Berke
Sarah Berke is the key fundraising contact, and oversees communications and development functions. A former LVC program assistant, Sarah became a permanent CCLF staff member in August 2005. Before rejoining CCLF, she was a Fulbright student in Novgorod-The-Great, Russia, where she had her film debut as an extra in the World War II epic Peregon (2006). A Nebraska native, Sarah holds a bachelor's degree in Political Science and Russian from St. Olaf College. She is a volunteer tax preparer through the Center for Economic Progress, and serves on the supervisory committee of the North Side Community Federal Credit Union.

OFFICE MANAGER Rose Seremala
Rose Seremala has worked for the agency for more than ten years. She is responsible for day-to-day coordination of office operations, including accounts payable and receivable, vendor/supplier relations, equipment maintenance/repair, personnel administrative operations and general office support. Before joining CCLF, Rose was an advisory support specialist in the POS Store Systems Unit of IBM (in finance and planning) for ten years. She holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Kansas Wesleyan University. Her passions are nature, religious studies and the arts.

PROGRAM ASSOCIATE Rebecca Baron
Rebecca Baron joined CCLF in September 2006. She supports the investor relations, grants, finance and administration departments. Rebecca holds a bachelor's degree in Jewish Studies from the University of Michigan and is an Ohio native. She previously worked as Office Manager at the University of Chicago Hillel, and spent a summer as an organic farmer through the ADAMAH environmental fellowship program. Outside CCLF, Rebecca can be found exploring the city of Chicago by bike.

PROGRAM ASSOCIATE David Theiss
David Theiss supports the lending, portfolio and borrower relations functions. He joined CCLF in August 2006 as an LVC Program Assistant, and became a permanent staff member in August 2007. A California native, David is a graduate of the University of San Francisco with a bachelor's degree in Politics and minors in (honors) Public Service and Legal Studies. He enjoys hiking and, as a bass guitarist, is also CCLF's unofficial rock star-in-residence.

LVC PROGRAM ASSISTANT (annual position) Emily Moen
Emily Moen joined the CCLF team in August 2007, courtesy of Lutheran Volunteer Corps (LVC). She supports the lending, portfolio and borrower relations functions, and administers the Project Readiness Workshops (PRWs). Before joining CCLF, Emily coordinated children's educational programs as a Lutheran Volunteer at the Hilltop Lutheran Neighborhood Center in Wilmington, Delaware. A Wisconsin native with a bachelor's degree in English and Religion from St. Olaf College, Emily enjoys crosswords and hopes one day to complete a Saturday NY Times puzzle.

RECEPTIONIST America Lewis
America Lewis has worked for CCLF and its office suitemate, the Chicago Jobs Council, since March 2007, and was previously a CCLF intern. She supports the administrative and office management functions.
