Fostering Healthy Enviornments

Housing should always be designed and constructed with the resident in mind. Occupants should not be placed at a detriment because their housing causes them to become ill; nor should they be disadvantaged by high utility costs, which is typical of poorly constructed buildings.

Well designed housing fosters healthy environments by placing emphasis on the incorporation of sustainable design elements at every stage, along with the promotion of healthy interiors by eliminating toxins found commonly in household products, such as VOC paints. Housing that tackles these issues helps to improve the built environment, providing desired and marketable housing features to the general public, not to mention protecting the health of the occupant.

Incorporate Sustainable Design: Sustainable building strategies have the potential to provide healthy, safe, and economically sustainable living environments for people of all incomes and to make efficient use of resources for long-term affordability.

Promote Healthy Interiors: Housing constructed in the spirit of good design should place a great deal of emphasis on the health of its occupants by eliminating toxins often found throughout the household and building site.
