comprehensive development assessments (CDAs)

  building for sustainability

You know your community needs affordable housing and/or economic revitalization. Are you unsure whether real estate development is the way to go? Do you know what getting into real estate means for your organization? Are you ready to move forward on a project? Does your organization have what it takes to succeed? Or are you new to the community development field and want a good overview?

Download the 2008 workshop calendar here.

Our Project Readiness Workshops (PRWs) are intensive, one-day, "scared straight" sessions that provide an overview of the complexities and requirements involved in launching and sustaining a successful real estate development project.

  • Identify issues to consider when deciding whether your organization should become a developer
  • Understand what it takes to become a developer and what a development timeline looks like
  • Gain tools to assess your organization's specific strengths and weaknesses
  • Get advice on how to work with architects, contractors, and title companies
  • Navigate the ins & outs and pros & cons of different sources of financing
  • Practice putting together a development budget and 5-year operating budget
  • Learn what lenders look for in reviewing your application for financing
  • Discover free and low-cost technical assistance resources available to nonprofits
