Our Project Readiness Workshops (PRWs) are intensive, one-day,
"scared straight" sessions that provide an overview of
the complexities and requirements involved in launching and sustaining
a successful real estate development project.
- Identify issues to consider when deciding whether your organization
should become a developer
- Understand what it takes to become a developer and
what a development timeline looks like
- Gain tools to assess your organization's specific strengths
and weaknesses
- Get advice on how to work with architects, contractors, and
title companies
- Navigate the ins & outs and pros &
cons of different sources of financing
- Practice putting together a development budget and 5-year operating
budget
- Learn what lenders look for in reviewing your application for
financing
- Discover free and low-cost technical assistance resources available
to nonprofits
Instructors
- Joy Aruguete
has been executive director of
Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation since 1995. In its 40-year
history, Bickerdike has developed over 1,000 "community-controlled"
affordable housing units in the West Town, Humboldt Park, Logan Square and Hermosa communities
in Chicago. She is President of the Chicago Rehab Network's board, Co-Chair of the Chicago Community Development Advisory Committee's Housing Subcommittee, and serves on the boards of Enterprise Community Partners (National Advisory Board), the Chicago Community Land Trust, and Latinos United, among others.
- Teresa Prim is
founding co-president of Prim Lawrence Group. She has more than 25
years of experience in the field of community economic development
and affordable housing projects. Her firm is responsible for securing financing for over 300 units of affordable housing representing more than 40 million dollars for single family and multi-family housing development projects over the last fifteen years. She has served as the lead development
consultant on several recent CCLF client projects.
